Designed by the PaddlerZone team to be a simple, floating design that is easy to re-stuff. This is the bag both instructors and recreational paddlers rely on.
Made locally, with the highest quality materials, this bag is available in two options:
25m Polypro/Kevlar: The ideal first throw-bag. Features an astonishing 25 meters of 7mm Polypro & Kevlar weave. This rope combination floats very well and has a very soft feel. Being a softer weave pattern, the rope unravels very quickly without slowing in the air, giving even less powerful paddlers a good distance with their throws. Suitable for retrieving a swimmer and for easy to moderate boat recoveries. If you’re just starting out, a multi-sport paddler, or do most of your paddling on grade 2-3 then this is the rope option for you. If you decide you need a step up in strength rating simply swap out the Poly/Kevlar rope for a 15m length Spectra - there is no need to buy whole new bag in the future.
15m Spectra: Features 15 meters of 8mm static rope with Dyneema core and Polypro protective sheath. This rope floats and at 8mm thick it’s easy to grip with tired, cold hands. This is the option for those paddling New Zealand rivers above Grade 3. If you need a rope that throws well and has an exceptional strength rating for tricky boat and/or paddler recoveries then this option is for you. Strong enough for the single emergency abseil. If the rope gets tired (damaged by heat, nicks or wear over time) the outer sheath can be replaced locally in Christchurch for a fraction of the cost of a new rope or a whole new bag. This will be the last throw-bag you’ll ever need to buy.
Throw-bags should only be used by those who have received the proper training for safe and effective use. Courses and training are available through PaddlerZone and other kayak organisations.
