The Cobra Play is the perfect family kayak.

The Play's full length keel makes this kayak track beautifully, especially for such a short kayak. If you want to explore bays along the shoreline, gentle rivers and occasionaly play in the surf then this is the kayak for you.

It has a fairly narrow beam so children are easily able to reach the water without having to stretch off balance or use an overly long paddle. The Play's flat hull shape gives even the most nervous of paddlers a high level of primary stability to build their confidence.

The Play is very light and short - which makes it easy to carry, store and get on top of your car. With a capacity of 118kg it's not only for kids, it's fun for adults as well. Kids can easily drag it back up the beach on their own using one of the fitted carry handles.

The seat sits high out of the water, meaning that even heavier adults will stay reasonably dry and won't be sitting in a pool of water.

There are a couple of features that make the Cobra Play a good surf kayak: it is light enough for even kids to manoeuver in the surf, the tailend of the keel is well shaped to assure easy tracking, and the sharp edges allow those with a little more experience to ride the rail and carve.

The Play above is pictured with optional accessories (see below for links to more information and prices of these items). Hatches can be installed at any time by those with handy skills or you can return your kayak to us in Christchurch for fitting. Hatches lead to the inside of the kayak providing a great place for gear storage. Leg straps make the kayak feel like more of an extension of your body giving you more control and confidence in all situations, and especially in the surf.

If you are close to, but don't quite match the Play's profile, try the following...

  • Don't have kids? Want to go further? Heavy for this kayak? - Cobra Explorer
  • Looking for a similar kayak for paddling braided riversĀ  with distinct eddylines, or spending most of your time in the surf? - Mission Flow
  • Want a kayak built only for kids? - Fluid Vaya
  • Want a dedicated advanced surf kayak (wave ski style)? - Cobra Strike
  • Want to sit really high above the water and have solid side handles? - Ocean Kayak Mysto

We have a demo unit of the Cobra Play. Rent it out - along with any others you wish to try - and whichever kayak you decide to buy we will take your rentals off the purchase price ( some conditions apply, cleaning fees and long term hires not included in this offer ).
