The Beachcomber is a New Zealand designed and built kayak and has been developed using the best innovations from existing kayak design to attain the finest performance achievable in recreational ocean kayaks. These features have been brought together into a new, high quality, rigid and safe kayak for a wide range of users.
The Beachcomber Ultralight is the ideal sea kayak for those looking for something lighter and stiffer than roto-moulded plastic - perfect for day trips and weekends away - but more forgiving in rocky conditions than glass and carbon-kevlar kayaks. Weighing in at 17 Kgs almost anyone can easily manage the kayak from car roof to water and back on their own.
The Beachcomber has been used quite extensively in the Coast to Coast multi-sport race, it handles the lumps, bumps and rocks of braided rivers well and can be repaired with resins ( damage allowing ). It's a good choice if you are looking at composite race kayaks but would like something more stable and tougher that's still light weight. It also gives you the option of trips away from grade 2 rivers when you're not racing. If you're looking for a fast sea kayak, this is it.
The Beachcomber is fast and highly manoeuvrable, but don't let that make you think it's not a serious sea kayak - amongst other trips it's been used in a circumnavigation of Great Barrier Island, it handled rounding Cape Brett, and Cape Reinga to The Bay of Islands. The long and the short of it is: it's as impressive in windy and lumpy conditions as it is on the flat so, if you can handle bad conditions, feel free to take our demo out on a rough day and find out for yourself what it can do.
