An Evolution styled boat that has just the right volume for most paddlers around 80 kg.

The hull of the Sisson Kayaks Nucleus 80 is derived from a carefully scaled down Evolution Classic. Early on in the planning stages it was decided to widen the hull waterplane adjacent to the cockpit area sufficiently to provide exceptional stability for the paddler making the transition to narrower boats. For its waterline beam, the Nucleus 80 is even more stable than the Sisson Nucleus 100. This is due to the flared hull side design which widens the waterplane considerably as the boat is leaned.

New Zealand Multisport Magazine rounded off their Nucleus 80 test by saying "Fast boat for mid-level folks of around 80kg. Ideal step up from the Esprit or Centrix"

The waterline length of the Nucleus 80 is optimised to minimise the effects of 'wetted area' drag. Experience has shown that multisport kayaks paddled aerobically (endurance intensity) are most affected by water drag caused by wetted area. Wave making drag is more a factor with boats that are sprinted anaerobically. In order to minimise the 'wetted area' of a boat that has been made wider, the length is best made shorter. Recent speed testing reinforces that the Nucleus hull is actually fast at low power inputs.

The deck styling of the Nucleus 80 is absolutely scaled off the record setting Evolution Classic. The whole concept is to maximise water shedding after wave penetration whilst presenting the lowest possible profile to wind grab.

The Nucleus 80 cockpit coaming is the same as the Evolution.

It has a long waterline - which means you can expect fast displacement speed.
It has a wider beam than other boats of similar cruise speed - which means it is more stable than you would expect it to be.
It has a low seating position - which means you can set up your seat very low to enhance your stability gain.

Sisson production moulds are built 200% overweight. Heavy moulds equals good composite quality and less 'flexi-mould' induced 'pre-release'. It also means that the builder can apply greater pressure when rolling the wet matrix resulting in better fibre-link-up. End result - the manufacturing quality is significantly less likely to fall which means that your own boat will be 'the same' as all the others that Sisson make. Strong, tough, durable and fast ude to reduced hull flex.
Time tested lay-up specifications. We understand that the ratio by weight of the fibres and resin in the matrix are of the greatest importance. The results speak for themselves - Paul Caffyn finished every expedition with no more than superficial kayak damage. Steve Gurney has never lost a race due to kayak failure. You can hit the water with absolute confidence in your kayaks integrity.
Safety first. Every Sisson Kayak is laid up with a 'keel' of 23000 uni-directional glass fibre rovings, doubled to 46000 in the high impact areas at each end. This is 'crossbow' spring technology! This rope-like rovings 'keel' extends up the bow and along the foredeck to the cockpit. Coupled with the carbon bridges on the foredeck and back of the cockpit, Sisson kayaks are engineered for strength where it is most needed. Which means you can even ram into rocks with greater confidence than before. And you can over-deck rescue your friends.
Gelcoat shields Kevlar fabric from Ultra Violet light. Kevlar can lose up to 25% of its tensile strength after only 3 weeks exposure to strong sunlight. All of our Kevlar kayaks are gel coated. The opaque gelcoat contains UV inhibitors and the Kevlar is shielded from the UV light. Which means the Kevlar in your Sisson Kayak will retain its design strength - year after year. Proven!
The hull / deck joins are cross-linked solid. All kayaks are joined within hours of the original hull and deck lay-up. All kayaks are joined the same day they are laid up using the same materials used to form the hull and deck. No 'bog' here! All boats keep their design shape. All 'joined' kayak hull / decks are 'Post Cured' in the mould. This demands 'cooking' overnight with heat for optimised hull and deck strength. Which means that the hull / deck unit is cross linked (chemically fused - not just bonded) together into a solid unit. This sometimes means extra hours must be worked into the evening. No substitution or compromise. Which means your kayak hull to deck join is the strongest in the business.
