The Ocean Kayak Prowler Ultra 4.7 builds on the strengths of the Prowler kayak family: a high performance hull with great stability, dry and durable insert attachment system, the unique Transducer scupper hole.
Ocean Kayak have then added a number of inspired new features:
- Live bait tank - features a bilge pump to keep the water fresh
- Rod tube - secure storage for surf and rough conditions
- Optional Ice box
- Flip center lid - keeps your electronics safe for surf entries, but easily available when you want them with a quick 'lift and twist'. The interior of this lid is a sealed well
- Click Seal bow hatch - easy, secure and dry storage
The result is a significantly swifter kayak with better features than anything else out there, giving you the freedom to go further more easily and in a wider range of conditions.
As standard the Prowler Ultra comes with the Johnsons Deluxe comfort seat, which while not exactly a GTS Airwave is a definite step up from the basic comfort seat featured on the and Ocean Kayak Prowler Elite 4.5.
There's been some worthwhile changes to the Prowler bow in the Ultra. It bears a wee bit of a resemblance to a spec surf ski - low volume lower section for speed with a higher volume top to stop the nose diving in the bigger stuff. This makes it both faster and quieter, greatly reducing the hated bow slap that many fishing kayaks suffer from.
Ocean Kayak have gone for solid handles on both bow and stern, these are great for carrying but we recommend fitting traditional sea kayak handles to the solid ones if you are going to be launching or landing through surf. They allow the kayak to move freely with the waves without the risk of injury to your wrists and fingers that solid handles present.
The hatch fittings are the same as those featured on the Necky sea kayak range: very dry and very easy to use, with a single clip with 4 way webbing securing the hatch. These are probably our favourite way of securing a hatch.
The kayak is finished off with a giant 1.1m rear well, which can optionally be fitted with an insulated fish bin.
