WindPaddle is a self launching, self standing sail that stows either on-deck or below in a small coiled/folded package around an 1/8th of it's original size. Combine this with the ability to be quickly launched or stowed while out on the water and you have a very easy to use sail.
At 368grams the WindPaddle needs no kayak modification for use - simply clip on and you're ready to go. It's rated to 100Kph by its manufacturer, we certainly won't be trying it out on the water in such conditions, but towing behind a car has been suggested... , and comes with fully sealed seams. All WindPaddle sails are made using traditional triple-stitch zig-zag sail seam construction. A triple stitch zig-zag results in a strong seam where the panels are sewn - the WindPaddle looks like it was made by a sailmaker because it was made by a sailmaker.
The WindPaddle is a flexible and forgiving sail made of 1/2 oz. rip-stop polyester "spinnaker" sailcloth supported by a virtually unbreakable perimeter batten. From recreational day touring, kayak fishing to expedition sea kayaking the WindPaddle is the sail of choice. It's easy to cruise downwind, tack or head crosswind - wherever you're going the WindPaddle can help you get there.
The WindPaddle Adventurer Mark II sail is approx. 1 sq. meter in size. It's unique circular design keeps the center of effort low for stability; the lowest center of effort of any small-craft sail available. As wind speed increases, the center of effort or force remains fixed and doesn't move up or down.
Please note: the videos below show the Adventurer Mark I, the Mark II has the same surface area but the window is now horizontal, giving far greater vision, and the vertical paddle attachment has been removed. They launch, stow and are controlled in exactly the same way and are manufactured to the same high standard using the same materials.
