Q. How can you tell winter is here?,
A.The sky is blue ( honest ), the shortest day is past and the Tuatara Tours Brass Monkey is happening on the Lower Waimak.

It's been great to see so many paddlers out on the Waimak for the last two races, day entries are still available for the next three races if you haven't entered the series yet - skilled novice paddlers are welcome.

It's been good to see the harbour so well used as well - between the kayaks, the surf skis, the waka and the SUPs there's good numbers out there.

Some folk are reluctant to get in their kayaks over winter ( unbelievable, eh? ) thinking that it's too cold... Remember: there's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing. Which makes me think of IR Union Suits, good jackets, thermal tops and my favourite gloves.

Winter is a great time to upskill, and the easiest way to upskill is to learn to roll in the warmth of a pool.

A good roll is by far the easiest way to improve your safety ( after wearing a PFD and checking the weather... ) out on the water.
The common perceptions that rolling is hard, or that it requires strength are both fundamentaly wrong - it's not hard, and it's about good technique, not muscle power.
If you'd like to improve your skills, your safety and be able to do more when you're out on the water, or if you have a roll you'd like to tidy up give us a call on 03 372 3353 and we'll get you booked in for a session or a course.
There are a variety of rolling techniques, so even if you have injuries that restrict your movement the chances are very good that there is a roll you will be able to learn. Just give us a call if you have specific needs.

Grade 2 courses start again on the 1st of October. Call or book online to take the next step to the Coast to Coast.

Grade 2 Assessments start again in October, bookings are now open.
