With 46 demo kayaks, we can accommodate your needs whatever your shape, size, kayak or water preference.
Using the pricing charts below: All rates shown here are the per-day rates. After two days, the daily fee rate decreases until the 11th day when the daily rental total drops to a minimal amount, making long term rentals an affordable option for summer long paddling holidays or those coming to New Zealand to train and compete in multisport events*. Please note that not all our kayaks are available for hires longer than two weeks, so please check with us.
- Example 1: Sit on top with all the gear for a Saturday beach party paddle:
Fri (pick up day is free if you collect after lunch), Sat ($45), Sun (Free dropoff day if your return the kayak before noon)
= $45 + $10 returnable cleaning fee = $55 total
- Example 2: White water kayak without gear for a week with both weekends.
Pick up day free, Sat ($30), Sun ($30), Mon ($20), Tue ($20), Wed ($10), Thr ($10), Fri ($10), Sat ($10), Sun ($10), Mon (Free drop off day)
= $150 + $10 Didymo cleaning fee = $160 total
*Coast to Coast season from Feb 1 to the Sunday after the coast to coast, all sea kayaks intended for use on the river and all multisport kayaks are $80 per day for all days with or without equipment, whether they are used or not. We strongly recommend that you bring your own paddle and gear, so that all you have to get acquainted with is the kayak and the river, but we can help you out with whatever we have. Be sure to book accessories in advance if you need something in particular. Air bags, where required, are always included.
"Includes equipment" vs. " Kayak Only": The uppermost table below is for those who require all the basic equipment as well as the kayak. Which gear is included depends on the type of kayak hired:
- Sea Kayaks include a spraydeck, buoyancy aid, paddle, bilge pump and paddle float.
- Sit on Tops include a buoyancy aid and paddle.
- Multisport kayaks come with a spraydeck, buoyancy aid, wing or standard sea paddle, air bags (always included) and cradles.
- White water kayaks come with a spraydeck, buoyancy aid, white water paddle, air bags (these are included in the bottom "no gear" table as well) helmet and throw bag. Tie downs are also in the "included equipment" if you need them.
Gear (buoyancy aids, helmets, etc) may also be hired alone (see the bottom table) - keep in mind that long term gear only hire is often not cost effective over purchasing your own gear ( especially if you look after it and sell it on afterwards ).
We have two trailers available for hire - one designed for white water, polo or sea kayaks; and one designed specially for multisport kayaks and gear. Please be sure to book these well in advance to avoid disappointment. Both are wired for 12 volt electrical systems only.
The prices below do not include the $10 cleaning fee that is charged per rental period per kayak. If you take the kayak into salt or pool water only and clean it well enough to be put back on the shelf, then the ten dollars are returnable. If you bring the kayak into a fresh water area, then we keep the $10 to help pay for the materials and time required to Didymo clean it and be sure to do our part in keeping NZ waterways beautiful and Didymo free.
Demo deal for purchasing a kayak: Anyone wanting to try a range of kayaks before buying may rent as many different models as they please over a three month period (up to two days per hire period count towards this offer) and have the rental total come off the final purchase price (cleaning fees not included).
