Sea kayaking is a safe and fun activity, but rough conditions or a lack of attention can sometimes lead to a capsize.

Winter waters are colder than summer ones, and hypothermia can set in quickly in the very rare instance of an accidental capsize. The solution? Come along to one of our indoor sea kayak rescue practice sessions in a heated diving well.

Because the dive well is deep, you will be able to practice your rescues easily without accidentally touching the bottom. In our session we'll cover self rescue techniques, buddy rescues, bracing strokes and a very basic look at rolling techniques ( also called an eskimo roll ). The confidence you'll gain from this practice session will allow you to paddle more safely, and be of assistance in a group if required. For those who wish to learn to roll, rolling sessions can be arranged separately.

We limit our indoor rescue classes to only three participants so we can tailor the course to match your current skill level. Meet at the reasonable hour of 6:30pm on Monday evenings and practice for two hours. Use your own kayak to most closely simulate an outdoor paddling rescue situation, or borrow one of our kayaks if you want to try out a new make or model. Let us know when you book which you'd prefer so we can be sure you have the gear you'll need.
