This is the course to take you from scratch to getting comfortable on flatwater and Grade II rivers in a multisport kayak.
The three sessions that make up this multisport course are either spread over 2 weeks, which provides time for each lesson to sink in and take root - as well as giving you a little time to practice the skills from each lesson in your own time, or intensive - all in one week, which is best for those who want to progress quickly or who live outside of Christchurch. We can usually mix and match to suit different schedules as needed - please state your requested dates in the comments section when booking your course.
This course will provide you with skills appropriate to grade 2 paddling: paddling technique, river features, line picking, ferry glides, eddy turns, bracing and self rescues.
All paddling, with the exception of the pool session, is completed in relevant multisport kayaks or race suitable sea kayaks such as the Barracuda Beachcomber Ultralight.
Once you have completed this prep course, you are ready to train for your Grade II Assessment, to demonstrate your new skills and to earn your Grade 2 Certificate.
