White Water Kayaking Courses

Introduction to White Water Kayaking

One session in a heated swimming pool, introducing you to the eskimo roll and the safety & rescue techniques you will need for your grade 2 river trips. Then a skills learning day in Christchurch learning flat water and surf skills before spending a day paddling grade 2 water, learning and practicing how to carve in and out of eddies, choose lines through the rapids, identify and deal with common hazards and gain rescue skills.

Kayak Rolling

To learn and/or improve your roll in the warmth of a swimming pool. Sessions are from 8:30 to 10:00pm on Monday and Thursday nights.
2:1 ratio, available as a course or as single sessions

Intermediate White Water Kayaking

You've done a roll or two in moving water after gaining a solid roll in the pool and you're ready to spend a weekend practicing your new white water skills with an instructor. If this is you then this course is perfect for you. Spend a weekend camping on the side of a grade 2-3 river, learning the skills you'll need to gain your independant paddler status and paddle with the white water club. Leave this course with the confidence and knowledge to practice with friends and skills required to paddle on WWCC trips.  $450

Multisport Grade 2 Certificates and guided Waimak Gorge trips

When you are ready for your grade II certification, spend a couple of hours on moving water demonstrating your skills to an assessment instructor to gain your grade II certification. This will allow you to participate and compete in multisport trips and races.

Waimak guided trips occur at regular intervals through December and January. We will guide you down the Coast-to-Coast course in your race boat. Hooking you up with good race lines and developing plans for some of the trickier sections. Stopping for lunch during our river journey and having our vehicle meet us at the get out. You have a choice of get out - either at Woodstock, or complete the entire Coast to Coast section to the Gorge Bridge - the choice is yours.  Please note: because we offer the option of running the entire Coast to Coast race route we do not guarantee a return to Christchurch time.
